Ceiling fan stuck on one speed? Remote acting possessed? Light flickering like you’re in a horror movie? You’re in the right place.
Whether you’re dealing with a rebellious Hampton Bay remote, a smart fan that refuses to be smart, or a mysterious clunking noise that only happens at 3 a.m. — we’re here to help.
How This Works
- You ask us your question — the weirder, the better.
- We give you an honest answer — usually involving fewer curse words than you used installing it.
- If we don’t know the answer right away, we’ll test it, research it, or call our uncle who used to work at Lowe’s.

Need Inspiration?
Here are real questions we’ve actually received (yes, seriously):
- “My ceiling fan makes a loud honk when I turn it on. Is it haunted?”
- “Can I connect my Hunter fan to Alexa or do I have to sacrifice a goat first?”
- “Why does my light turn on every night at 3 a.m. without me touching anything?”
- “Which Hampton Bay remote actually works with the Glendale model?”
We’ve Got Answers.
Whether it’s techy, quirky, or completely unhinged — send us your fan questions. Worst-case scenario? We make you laugh. Best-case? You get your ceiling fan back under control without throwing the remote across the room.
Spin your problems our way. We’re listening.
We have a Dan’s Fan City Tiara 72” ceiling fan. Went back to get a light kit. Installed light kit . Fan has a remote receiver and hand held remote. In testing before light kit being installed, I found the blue wire that powers and turns off / on the light not working properly. Blue wire to light had 120 V AC all the time. It would not turn off .
I next purchased a new fan control module. Connected black phase from romex to black ac in on module, same with neutral white to ac in white. Output is wired black ac hot to fan motor ac in. White to fan ac neutral in. And finally blue out of control module to ac in on light kit and white neutral to light neutral. Seems all connections are properly connected. Results are the same as with the original control module. Remote operates fan and the three speeds and off. But blue wire to light will not operate with fans remote. Light is on all the time. What might cause this. Did the original dealer, Dan’s Fan City install the wrong control module? Since originally my wife did not get the light kit. Could it be that the control module is not compatible with a two bulb light kit?
Could any of the speed change capacitors cause this?
