If your Hampton Bay ceiling fan remote has gone rogue — maybe the fan won’t turn on, the light flickers like a haunted house, or nothing responds at all — it might be time for a good old-fashioned reset. Don’t worry, no tech degree required. Just a ladder, some patience, and possibly a small prayer to the ceiling fan gods.
When Should You Reset Your Hampton Bay Remote?
Good question. Try resetting your remote if:
- The fan or light doesn’t respond at all
- The speed or light settings behave erratically
- You replaced the battery and it still acts weird
- You just installed the fan and nothing’s working
- You’re pairing a new receiver or remote
How to Reset a Hampton Bay Remote
There are a few types of Hampton Bay remotes out there, but most of them follow a similar reset procedure. Here’s the general method:
- Turn off power to the fan at the circuit breaker.
We’re going full reboot here, not just flipping the wall switch. - Remove the remote’s battery cover.
Look for the dip switch panel or pairing button inside. - Reset dip switches (if present).
If your remote uses dip switches, slide them into a new random pattern (both on the remote and inside the receiver in the fan canopy — yes, this means climbing up). Just make sure they match. - If your remote has a “Learn” button:
- Turn power back on at the breaker
- Within 30 seconds, press and hold the “Learn” button on the remote (sometimes located under the battery cover) for 5–10 seconds
- The fan should start spinning or the light should blink — that means it’s paired

Still Not Working?
If resetting didn’t help, here are a few things to try:
- Replace the batteries — always the first thing tech support will ask you
- Double-check the dip switches if your remote/receiver uses them
- Confirm the fan has power — sometimes the wall switch or breaker is off
- Try a universal Hampton Bay remote — some older remotes simply fail and need replacement
Which Hampton Bay Remotes Can Be Reset?
Most popular remotes like the UC7078T, CHQ7096T, and FAN-HD models can be reset using either dip switches or a Learn button. Newer smart-compatible ones may pair via Bond Bridge or other hubs, and the reset process may differ slightly.
